wood buffet, made of solid walnut

This custom wood buffet was handcrafted from solid black walnut, finished in a natural oil that enhances the wood’s rich, chocolate brown tones and brings out the depth of its straight, open grain. Walnut is one of the most sought-after hardwoods for fine furniture — its natural color, figure, and workability make it an exceptional choice for a piece that needs to be both beautiful and durable.

The turned legs are a defining design detail, giving the piece a mid century character that feels both classic and current. Each leg was turned by hand and fitted with a brass caster, allowing the buffet to be moved easily without sacrificing the elegance of the turned leg design. The combination of turned walnut legs and brass casters is a distinctive detail not found on standard production furniture.

The buffet features three sections: two flanking cabinet sections with open interiors for flexible storage, and a center section with two drawers finished with brass hardware. The brass pulls tie together the warm tones of the walnut and the caster hardware, creating a cohesive, intentional look throughout.

The natural oil finish keeps the walnut looking and feeling like solid wood — not a plastic coating over a beautiful material, but a finish that protects while letting the wood breathe and age gracefully over time. Walnut finished in natural oil will deepen and enrich in color with age, making this a piece that genuinely improves over the years.

This dark walnut sideboard is a strong example of how traditional joinery and design details can be combined with natural materials to create a piece that feels both timeless and distinctive. The turned legs and brass casters make it one of the most unique pieces in the beth & co. woodworks portfolio.
